Knickers
Did you know that it was once considered indecent if a lady wore
knickers, Up until about the middle of the 19th century, when Queen Victoria
was said to wear 'knickerbockers', the only acceptable thing for a lady to
wear under her skirts was nothing.
Those of you visiting from other countries, and might not know the UK
word Knickers to be used to describe ladies underwear, they are Ladies
unmentionables, pants, Drawers, panties, under garments or briefs or undies.
They also have other names, named after a manufacturer like bloomers (Amelia
Bloomer)
Bridget Jones
Anyone who have seen these movies, will know that we now have another
type of knickers, referring to the very large knickers that Bridget Jones
showed in the movie.
The term Knickerbockers was originally the term to describe the Dutch. It
eventually became the term used to describe the style of pants that these
Dutch wore. The pants were rolled by the knee and became known as
"Knickerbockers" which became shortened as "Knickers".
